Biography
Jean-François Pérouse is a social geographer, professor in Toulouse-II University and head of the IFEA in Istanbul. He holds a PhD in urban geography (with a thesis entitled “From Angora to Ankara: the Birth of a Capital (1919 1950)” and graduated in Turkish Language (INALCO). Since September 1999 he lives and works in Istanbul (Marmara University, French Institute for Anatolian Studies, Galatasaray University). He has published many articles and chapters in various academic reviews and books mostly about Istanbul and contemporary Turkey in French, Turkish, German and English. He belongs also to the EJTS (European Journal of Turkish Studies, www.ejts.org) editorial board. Besides, among the books he wrote: Third World Cities (Hatier, 1993, and 1995), La Turquie en Marche (La Martinière, 2004), Villes et Risques (Economica / Anthropos, 2006), Constantinople 1900. Photographic Journey (Kallimages 2010) and Trying to cope with Istanbul. Mobility and Urban Memory (İletişim, 2011; and 2014 for the 2nd edition).
Research project
He will look at the impact of Syrian refugees on several Turkish employment areas such as Kilis/Gaziantiep, Antakya and Adana/Mersin.
